We are living through a pivotal moment for human rights. Across the globe, values of dignity, democracy, and justice are under threat. We are witnessing unprecedented challenges: growing polarization, disinformation, state repression, and the erosion of civic space. At the same time, funding for civil society is increasingly uncertain, and the international system built to protect rights is struggling to respond.
Yet amid this turbulence, there is reason for hope—and urgency. People are rising up. Human rights defenders continue to show resilience, imagination, and courage. From West Africa to the Middle East, from the Americas to South Asia, communities are not only protecting rights—they are reimagining what justice and equality can look like in today’s world.
Equitas is honored to be part of this movement. With over fifty years of experience, we know education drives change—helping people understand and claim their rights, fostering connection, dialogue, and solidarity across differences.
Throughout this year, Equitas continued to respond to this moment with determination and creativity. This race for human rights is part of those responses, one we've been carrying out with passion and nerve for six years. Running, walking or rolling up to 21km has been remaining a special moment for staff to commit differently to human rights while feeling the raw energy that drives our daily work.
